SRC Kids Safety Policies

SRC is committed to taking practical steps to provide a safe environment for all children participating in its ministry programs.

Policies & Procedures

  • All volunteers working directly with children in its ministry programs will be screened in accordance with this policy. Any children aging 13 years old and under are required to serve with their parent/guardian. Both the parent and child will undergo this screening process. Screening will include at least the following:

    • Written Application - All volunteers must complete and sign a written application. The application will request basic information from the applicant and will inquire into previous experience with children, as well as two personal references. A false statement on the application for volunteer service, or the consent and authorization to conduct a background screening is grounds for ineligibility for volunteering in SRC Kids.

    • Personal Interview - All volunteers must attend a personal interview with a member of staff to discuss the position and the applicant's talents, qualifications, and abilities. Multiple and/or group interviews may be conducted as deemed appropriate by SRC.

    • Background Check Consent Form - All volunteers must execute an authorization and release form allowing SRC to perform a background screening. Applicants will be ineligible for appointment to a volunteer position if the results of the background screening reveal any prior conviction for offenses involving children and/or other offenses that SRC determines make the applicant unfit for performing the requirements of the volunteer position or are contrary to the mission of SRC Kids.

  • The following policies are for volunteers, children, programs, activities, and facilities with a goal of providing a safe environment:

Adult Supervision – All programs involving children will have a minimum of two (2) individuals assigned to supervise the activity at all times. Volunteers are prohibited from being alone with children, as well as leaving a fellow volunteer alone with children.

Supervision of Children – Under no circumstances will children be left unsupervised.

Sign-in Required – All volunteers and children are required to sign-in before gaining admittance to any SRC Kids classroom, corresponding with their correct age or grade.

Doors Locked – All classroom doors must be locked 15 minutes after service has started. This includes East and West entrance doors to the SRC Kids Building and glass FOB doors to hallways. Any families joining us after the doors have been secured will be greeted and welcomed in by a Lobby volunteer.

Release of Children at Dismissal – Staff and volunteers are prohibited from releasing children to the custody of any person without a Pick-up Receipt naming that child. Replacement Receipts can be issued at the Front Lobby Desk for anyone who is not able to provide one.

Exceptions – In the unlikely situation, when a child is not picked-up within a reasonable amount of time or is ill, they will be brought to the Kids Lobby Desk and handed off to a Staff member.

  • The following policies should be adhered to at all times during our SRC Kids ministry. The primary purpose of these policies is to protect our children first, and volunteers second.

As with most of our policies, the goal is to provide accountability for all volunteers, and to eliminate as many opportunities for abuse or misconduct as possible, while maintaining a fun and enjoyable environment for the children we are caring for.

    EARLY CHILDHOOD

    • Infants - 2 Year Olds: Only women are permitted to change a child's diapers. Please use a new changing pad and new set of gloves for each child. Wash your hands after changing a diaper.

    • 3 Year Olds - 5 Year Olds: During drop-off, if a child needs to use the restroom please direct the parent to the Lobby Restroom as only volunteers are permitted in the classroom. When assisting a child in the bathroom the door must remain open at ALL times. Never be alone with a child in the restroom while the door is closed.

    ELEMENTARY

    • A volunteer is never allowed in a restroom with a child.

    • There should never be two children using the bathroom at one time.

    • When a child needs to use the restroom, please bring them to the Lobby to be assisted to the restroom by a SRC Kids staff member. The volunteer can then return to their classroom.

  • HEALTH GUIDELINES

If a child is exhibiting any of these symptoms, please bring it to the attention of an SRC Kids Staff member:

    • Runny nose (green or yellow).

    • Vomiting, diarrhea, or fever.

    • Has an unexplained rash or skin infection, shows signs of conjunctivitis (pink eye) or any other contagious infection.

    • A child notifies you that they are not feeling well.

    FIRST AID

At SRC Kids we make every effort to minimize the risk of accidents but we recognize that accidents may still occur. All accidents, no matter how small will be reported to the SRC Kids Director as soon as possible after the accident took place.

If a true emergency arises, call 911.

The SRC Kids Director will deal with the accident and treat any injuries as required.

Once the individuals have been treated, all details regarding the accident, will be recorded in the Incident Report Form by a member of SRC Kids staff.

First aid kits with basic supplies can be found in all the classrooms, Sunrise, Sunset, Kitchen, and Welcome Desk.

Please use gloves for any accident involving blood or vomit, and to change diapers.

All SRC Kids staff members are CPR certified and AED trained (Automatic Electronic Defibrillator) and should be notified when an emergency arises. The AED is located on the wall in the Children's Lobby, behind the Welcome Desk.

  • In the case of an emergency, such as a fire or other need to evacuate the premises immediately, the SRC Kids Director will be designated as the point-person to give directions.

    FIRE DRILL

Please follow the instructions on the Emergency Plan Sign:

    • As soon as the Fire Alarm goes off all volunteers will quickly take a head count:

    • Infants to 1 Year Olds - Load as many children as you can into the safety cribs and carry the rest.

    • 2 to 5 Year Olds - Use the colorful loop ropes in the classroom closet to keep kids together as you line up.

    • Elementary - Stop all activity, line up quickly, and gather the Attendance Sheet.

    • If you SEE or SMELL smoke, lead your class out of the building from the nearest exit route. Be aware of your immediate surroundings as you may have to choose an alternate route of escape when needed.

    • Take a head count again once outside.

    • In the event of a fire, parents will pick-up their child outside, away from building, in a designated area per the SRC Kids Director.

    • If you do not SEE or SMELL smoke, DO NOT leave the building. Remain in your classroom until a SRC Kids Staff member notifies you with instructions. False Fire Alarms can happen!

    LOCKDOWN PROCEDURES

    • In case of lockdown, quickly lock all doors and drop the door window curtains.

    • Take children to the marked Safe Corner.

    • There is a bag of lollipops in each corner to keep kids calm and quiet (no lollipops in Infants/1 Year Olds).

    • Remain silent and silence all cellphones.

    • No one is to leave the Safe Corner.

    • Disregard all Fire Alarms, unless you are instructed to evacuate.

    • Do not open the door for anyone.

    • Count your students and take attendance.

    • Communication will be sent via text message to volunteers when the lockdown is over.
