Deacon Nomination Form

PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING CAREFULLY BEFORE MAKING A NOMINATION FOR DEACON:

God established the office of Deacon in the church and enlisted men to serve in the body of Christ to allow others to minister the Word of God and teach (Acts 6:1–7).

Qualifications for the Office of Deacon

1. The man nominated should be mature in the faith and not be a new Christian (I Timothy 3:6). SRC believes that both the office of Elder and Deacon are to be filled by men.

2. The nominee should have his household in order, meaning that his marriage and family life are pleasing to God (I Timothy 3:6).

3. The nominee should have a good reputation, morally and ethically, not only in the church, but also in his place of employment and social and recreational life (I Timothy 3:7).

4. The nominee should be well-versed in the Word of God and be willing and capable to share his faith with others (I Timothy 3:9).

5. Since we are a Presbyterian church, the man nominated should be in agreement with the Reformed Doctrine.

6. The nominee should have a record of consistency in his church attendance.

7. The nominee should know his spiritual gifts and presently be involved in ministry at Spanish River Church.

8. The nominee should support the goals of the church and the policies of the session, the senior pastor, and staff, as well as have a desire to encourage them in their ministries.

9. The nominee should presently be tithing (giving 10%) with at least 85% of the tithe going to the ministries of Spanish River Church.

10. The nominee should be able and willing to make a time commitment of approximately two hours each week to the Deacons’ ministries, possessing a servant’s heart and attitude.
